Getting Started With Lap BandOnce the patient is cleared for the Lap Band Surgical Procedure, they can expect a minimally invasive surgery that oftentimes takes less than an hour and does not always require an overnight hospital stay. The lap band surgeon will make a number of small incisions in the stomach area to begin the process. Using a laparoscope, the surgeon can easily view where the lap band will be attached to the upper portion of the stomach. Unlike gastric bypass where cutting and stapling of the stomach area is necessary, the Lap Band Surgical Procedure does not require that. Once attached in the stomach, the lap band will limit the amount of food going into the stomach for each individual. Patients can still meet their daily nutritional needs, just not needing to consume as much food as before. Patients will also discover that eating smaller meals during the day is a better decision.
